Operating 20 sows and 2 boars with a target breeding cycle of 3 litters per year, Setlhare Farm's piggery produces 480 weaners annually. Primary offtake is through Valley Abattoir in Nigel, supplemented by local informal traders.
02 — Vegetables
Two hectares under borehole-fed drip irrigation produce spinach, tomatoes, green peppers, and cabbage across rotating seasonal cycles. Produce is sold through Regional Supply Group to the Joburg Market, with plans to expand acreage from year two.
03 — Agro-Processing
Current production: biltong and dried sausage from pork offcuts — low-waste, high-margin products from the piggery stream. From year two, value-added products from vegetable surplus enter the processing line. Target markets: local retailers, butcheries, and informal sector.
