"The land does not care who you are — it only asks whether you are willing to work it. We are willing."

— Zanele Khumalo, Founder

"I did not choose farming because it was easy. I chose it because it is necessary — and because no one else in my community was doing it."

Zanele Khumalo is a young agricultural entrepreneur who established Setlhare Farm in 2025 on Farm Portion 8 in Arcadia, City of Tshwane. With support from the Department of Rural Development and government agricultural grant funding, she has built a 21.5-hectare operation producing pork, fresh vegetables, and agro-processed goods for local and regional markets.

Her ambition extends beyond production — Setlhare Farm is designed as a training facility for the next generation of South African farmers, with a target of 30 permanent jobs and a national agricultural training centre by 2028.
